Strutting their stuff
The gowns that feature on The London Bridal Show catwalk are key indicators of the styles that promise to perform in the season ahead
The opening runway show on the first day of the big event in the capital brought together a range of names that understand what today’s brides want. There was no shortage of trend-setting detailing, from lavish showers of petals cascading over tulle from first-time exhibitor Julija, to stylish 60s glamour in perfectly sculpted silhouettes with boat necklines and narrow waists - those who have seen the Natalie Portman movie Jackie will fall in love with this particular look.
Fishtails, yes, but more relaxed than in recent seasons and therefore more wearable, and relaxed lines elsewhere, with soft skirts and clever layering to create movement. We loved Mark Lesley’s box pleating which adds volume but in a chic way, and Donna Salado - his design force, has gone to town with tattoo detailing and wonderful embroideries that are so intricate they have become the new lace.
Casablanca, whose stand at The London Bridal Show has been busy since the doors opened, showed a heavily textured lace gown in its Beloved collection, with horsehair trimmed tulle layers forming a dramatic fit and flare silhouette with narrow spaghetti straps on a sweetheart neckline.
Sensual column lines featured in Dando London, the first collection from Christine Dando whose gowns have proven to be a huge hit on Say Yes to the Dress UK, which is filmed at her Confetti & Lace store. Plunging necklines, floral laces and Gatsby-styling add up to a beautifully-defined picture.
Diane Legrand does off-the-shoulder wonderfully, with lace detailing that forms a frame and draws attention to the wide centre V, while Gino Cerruti sent out elegant beaded gowns befitting of the grandest of red carpets.
Catwalk performances at The London Bridal Show took place Sunday at 3pm and 5pm, and on Monday at 1pm and 3pm. Tickets weren’t required but visitors were suggested to arrive early to bag a seat to see the show-stopping numbers from Bianco Evento, Casablanca, Dando London, Diane Legrand, Donna Salado, Eternity, Gino Cerutti, Jasmine, Julija Bridal Fashion, Mark Lesley and Nixa, with accessories from Jupon, Rainbow Club and Trollbeads.
