Industry Associations help the retailer
In a joint initiative, key players in the industry go all out to persuade brides not to shop onlne for their wedding gown. The first step is the provision of a warning poster, which bridalwear retailers across the country would be wise to display

We’ve heard all the horror stories about brides buying a wedding gown on the internet, foolishly believing that the bargain-basement-priced designer frock is the real thing at an unreal price – retailers and suppliers have become increasingly used to having to rush to the rescue when the package arrives and with it, the inevitable heartbreak. Thanks to Pete Pete Meads of Bonny Bridal who set up Brides Aware specifically to warn of the dangers and disappointment of online wedding dress purchases, a poster campaign has been mounted in conjunction with BIS, the RBA and BBEH to take the message straight to the consumer, via bricks and mortar brdalwear shops. The poster, above, will be sent out to retailers along with the BBEH Preview with BIS’s special offer vouchers. Display it prominently and help avoid any further wedding dress disasters.

Although there is no association at present in Ireland to support guidelines within the bridal industry most of the well known and established shops are working together to uphold a strong business ethic to protect their future and reputation. Crucial to the success in protecting their business is pricing gowns within the guidelines of the suppliers and depending on the level of personal service to achieve sales and referral's. Under cutting is undermining the prestige of both the designer and shops and shows little support or integrity for what is a very challenging profession at times. It's reassuring to see a supplier campaigning on our behalf and also protecting unsuspecting brides against the pitfalls of purchasing online. It's via the reputation we develop as retailer's that will support the cliche' You get what you pay for' that will keep brides returning to the personal and professional service that is necessary on such and important and special occasion.

Don't buy your wedding dress on the internet. We have had several very upset Brides, with ill fitting and bad quality gowns, who have come to us to alter or repair and steam often the dress is such poor quality that we are unable to help.
We can only keep stressing this time and time again not to buy on the internet and to go to a reputable retailer who will help from start to finish and be on hand for any questions and for those finishing touches, isnt it worth it for that Special day??.Wedding dress is a very important and personal purchase so go to a bridal shop, try on, use their knowledge and experience, buy in store - this makes your wedding day extra special and also means you have no problems!

This is a great idea, and is nice to see that all retailers can work together, I have had so many brides in my bridal studio in tears over dresses purchased on the Internet. So glad to see this is going to happen, I will and would be pleased to put this poster in my bridal studio windows, I have four large windows and would be VERY happy to put the posters in all four.
I would like to say a BIG thank you to the organisers.

Deborah from Surrey. Can anyone shed a light on "Best Bridal Prices", this internet sight pops up when you google many leading brands of wedding dress design groups. They list many current designs and you then have to call for a price, they have all the current photo images and design names and numbers. This internet sight is a forgery company stealing images and displaying them actively in order to achieve sales from customers who are led to believe they are buying the genuine article. There must be a legal way that this company can be stopped. They clearly have gone to a great deal of trouble on producing the sight and it appears top pf goggle searches. This must be looked into urgently.

Message to Wendy Turner, I'm hoping that the logo will be available as a link to my Brides Aware website. I just need to chat with Andy Jackson of the BIS about this. I can supply a Brides Aware banner for websites but my website guy charges me thus I need to pass that on. It's £2.00 per banner and comes with all the coding to go straight on to websites.
It nice that messages are being left on here. Can stores please also leave messages on the Brides aware website. It's that the brides visit. By stores showing their support on there will highlight the danger more buying online.
A BIG thank you to BIS, RBA and BBEH in their support on this issue. Also thank you to Wedding Idea's magazine and Wedding TV.
Together as suppliers and shops we can try and stop the fake copies being sold online. I want this campaign to go global so that the fake copy sellers know we are on to them and the world do not want their rubbish on the market!!

I agree with Wendy Turner as the warning needs to be on the internet where girls are searching. Have a look at what I have just done http://www.bridalre-dress.com/Catalogue.html

As much as I agree that there can be many tales of woe and applaud your campaign, I just visited the brides aware website expecting to find a list of reasons and pitfalls and advice on this topic. Only to find reference to the fact that it can turn into a 'horror story' and a comment about possible duty costs. I had hoped to blog about this with some good solid points of fact about the exact nature of this and some helpful dos and dont's. I wish you luck with your campaign but encourage you to build on your explanations of why it is such a bad idea to purchase online from abroad. Mary
